A Clubfoot Journey #9: Liam's Journey

February 18, 2015 (18-week ultrasound)We could barely contain our excitement at our 18-week anatomy ultrasound, we would find out if our growing baby was a ‘he’ or a ‘she’!  My husband’s predictions were correct and my cravings of salt & vinegar potato chips, pickles, and cheese crackers solidified that our baby was in fact a boy.  He would be the first boy on my husband’s side of the family in 15 years - extremely high expectations for this little one. After the ultrasound we met with one of the doctors at the practice.  We called him Dr. Right because he always confirmed his statement with the question of “Right?”. He congratulated us on the gender reveal and continued to ask us...

A Clubfoot Jouney#8: Alex's Story

This little guy has quite the story to tell...I had just turned 41 about a month before I found out I was pregnant. Lots of things filled my mind. How could I start again with another one. My youngest was 6 and finally didn't need me as much, my older one would be entering high school in the fall.  As time went on all I had were cramps and spotting I figured I was headed down the road to miscarriage.  I remember making the first appointment and asking if anything went wrong should I call them before my appointment.  Just go to the ER they told me.  I wasn't hopeful. Still spotting and cramping they asked me if I wanted...

Clubfoot Journey#8: An older perspective by Lauren Madison

I was born with a Club Foot and my right foot and right leg was affected. At about 6 months old, the process began to correct my right foot. (I was so adorable with my little cast!) At the age of 4 or 5, I wore braces on my leg like Forest Gump. I can remember being teased throughout grade school, and even college! Lol. I walk with a slight limp, my right foot is 2 SHOE SIZES smaller than my left and my right leg is smaller/shorter than my left. High Heels have never quite been my cup of tea, but sometimes I get lucky!  As a yogi, most poses are difficult to execute. I sometimes get frustrated, but...

Clubfoot Journey#7: Zoya & her son

I clearly remember the day of my scan, I was counting down the weeks to see my little one. As I laid there anxiously, my husband on one side, the doctor went through every detail.Everything seemed fine so far. He paused for a couple of minutes when examining baby's feet and my heart sank, I knew something was not right. The rest of the scan was a big blur. I couldn't hold my tears back once we were in the car. Immediately the guilt set in, "What did I do wrong?", "Was it something I took?", "How did this happen?". My son was born with bilateral clubfeet. As first time parents we didn't know how to react, we didn't even...

Clubfoot Journey#6: Jonas' and his journey to a DTKAFO (Jerald Cunningham)

Early August 2015, I got a positive pregnancy test result. I was over the moon and so was my husband. This little one would become our 2nd child. We had already been blessed with an adorable little girl in 2013. I was due on her next birthday. However the pregnancy didn't really go as planned. At our first scan, the sonographer got annoyed because our little baby wasn't in the right position for her to take all the measurements she wanted, I was asked to come in for a blood test to check for Downs syndrome. The results came back with a 1 in 55 chance of a chromosomal abnormality and I was asked there and then if I...
