Clubfoot Journey#7: Zoya & her son

I clearly remember the day of my scan, I was counting down the weeks to see my little one. As I laid there anxiously, my husband on one side, the doctor went through every detail.Everything seemed fine so far. He paused for a couple of minutes when examining baby's feet and my heart sank, I knew something was not right. The rest of the scan was a big blur. I couldn't hold my tears back once we were in the car. Immediately the guilt set in, "What did I do wrong?", "Was it something I took?", "How did this happen?". My son was born with bilateral clubfeet. As first time parents we didn't know how to react, we didn't even...

Clubfoot Journey #5:Rhet's Win!

Our story begins at 20 weeks gestation when those troubling words were said... "I'm sorry, but something is wrong with your son's foot. It looks like he has talipes also known as clubfoot. We will get you scheduled with a specialist and go from there." As a first-time mother, those words shattered my world. Two doctor appointments later and multiple ultrasounds we had an absolute diagnosis. We were referred to Vanderbilt Children's hospital to Dr. Lovejoy. At this appointment, the doctor laid out our treatment. It involved telling us, "your son will never walk, and will be miserable. It's best you just have one surgery and leave the foot alone." Who would say such a thing to a new mom...

Clubfoot Journey#4: Miles' Story

Before my son Miles, I didn't know anything about clubfoot. At my 20 week scan they thought they saw something but couldn't get a clear picture. My doctor told me not to worry. I went back at 32 week's for another ultrasound and was told everything was perfect. Well after my son was born, I was lying there and I heard my husband say "why are his feet like that"? My stomach dropped. He was born with bilateral clubfeet. The pediatrician told me a referral was sent to London and they would be in touch. When they finally brought him to be 6hrs later, I was afraid to open the blanket and look. My husband told me it was okay....

Clubfoot Journey#3: A Brother and Sister Journey

Our Clubfoot Journey began in August of 2011 at my 20 week anatomy ultrasound, I had gone by myself because we had found out earlier on that we were having a boy and my husband had to work that day. I have always known what clubfoot was my older brother was born with Bilateral clubfoot and I had seen pictures of him in his casts and his bar and boots. Even though I had known that my son would grow up and still be perfect, I was devastated when the technician told me my son too had bilateral clubfoot. I cried the whole way home from our visit and whenever I had to tell our family and friends not to...

Clubfoot Journey#2: Emily's DDH & Clubfoot Story

My name is Aurora. My husband's name is Jud, and we have named Emily. We live in Dallas Texas, and her doctor is at Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. I was on birth control when I got pregnant, so she was a complete surprise. At 20 weeks my doc found her bcf. We were given the news, but we couldn't meet with a specialist to confirm for three weeks. So we had to just sit and wait and do research at home. At 23 weeks we met with a specialist in high-risk pregnancies, and they did another ultrasound and confirmed her feet were here the only issue. No heart brain or spine issues. She was two days late, and I...
